New Compatibility Settings in The War Within
The War Within pre-expansion patch comes with new compatibility settings aimed at helping diagnose and mitigate various crashes, graphical bugs, and performance issues. These new settings also come with an FPS boost, with some players reporting upwards of 25 FPS gains after the latest Beta Build.Note that these features are enabled by default and should be turned off only if users are experiencing specific issues such as graphics driver crashes or visual bugs.

They are only intended to be disabled if you are having specific issues.Optional GPU Features
Allows the use of newer GPU features. When disabled, the game will act as if the GPU only supports the minimum required features. Various graphical features will be disabled and the visual quality of the game will likely be reduced. This may help work around driver bugs or other issues with newer GPU features.Async Resource Creation
Allows asynchronously creating GPU resources such as textures and shaders. Disabling this will likely introduce hitching but could help work around crashes or visual issues on very old drivers or hardware.Multithreaded Rendering
Allows the game to use multiple CPU threads to render the game. Disabling this will likely greatly reduce framerate, but could work around crashes or visual bugs in some cases.Frame Overlap
Allows the CPU to work on 2 frames at once. Disabling this may cause less consistent or lower framerate but could help avoid some kinds of crashes for certain hardware, driver and OS combinations.Advanced Work Submit
Allows more complex code paths for submitting work to the GPU. Disabling this may cause less consistent or lower framerate but could help avoid some kinds of crashes for certain hardware, driver and OS combinations.Reply With Quote

could one of these options be a solution for game crashes if you have 13 or 14gen intel processor?

I'm afraid to tell you that 13/14 gen intel processors are unstable by themselves. Not WoW's fault.Originally Posted by pikkuhukkis

If you have an older machine that ends up running into problems with these new options, it sounds like disabling them basically makes WoW run as it always has.Originally Posted by Othraerir

If your computer is completely incompatible with an option, they'll presumably grey themselves out like some of the advanced lighting options currently do.

I have a 13700K and never had a crash in any games I play. WoW and DayZ both run fine, not one crash.Originally Posted by pikkuhukkis

Nope, you're boned. This issue has been getting investigated by hardware outlets for a while now. A seemingly decent proportion of 13/14 gen intel processors went to market with some sort of defect (investigation thus far hasn't confirmed the root issue. It might be trace oxidation, it might be issues within the non-writable microcode sections) and if you're affected, your CPU is forever screwed.Originally Posted by pikkuhukkis
